PAPPU CHARU



TIME TAKEN: 30 MINS

INGREDIENTS

KANDHI PAPPU (TOOR DAL): ½ CUP
TOMATOES: 2 MEDIUM
GREEN CHILI’S: 3 – 4
TAMARIND PULP: 2 tbsp
TURMERIC POWDER: A PINCH
CHILI POWDER (OPTIONAL): ½ tsp
SALT: TO TASTE

FOR TEMPERING

OIL: 2 tsp
ONION ½ OR 1 SMALL
MUSTARD SEEDS: ½ tsp
METHI SEEDS: ½ tsp
CUMIN SEEDS (JEERA): ½ tsp
CURRY LEAVES: 10 – 15
CORIANDER LEAVES: FOR GARNISH

METHOD

Step 1: Wash and soak the dal for 10 mins. add  1 1/2 cup water to soaked dal, add chopped tomatoes and chili’ s, pressure cook it for 2 - 3 whistles.


Step 2: Add salt and turmeric powder to the cooked dal, mash it finely. Add tamarind paste.


Step 3: In a pan, heat oil, temper mustard seeds, cumin seeds, methi seeds, chopped onions and curry leaves, add the mashed dal and water as required and cook till boil.

 

Take it into a serving bowl and garnish it with coriander leaves.

SUGGESTIONS:
  • Add water according to your requirement. if you want it watery add 2 - 21/2 cups water or else add less water.
