though we don't add much veggies in our daily diet, greens are our all time favorite at home... when me n my bro were school going, my mom makes sure that she cooks greens atleast twice a week since we hate eating any other veggies.. thotakura pappu is my bro's favorite and after he left home for higher studies, my mom cooks this thotakura pappu for sure when ever he is back home for vacations..
thotakura pappu taste best with avakai (mango pickle), ghee and vadiyallu (prepared by mom)....

METHOD:
Ø Wash
and soak the dal for 10 – 15 mins. In a pressure pan, add soaked dal, roughly
chooped thotakura, tomatoes, green chilli’s and 1 cup water and pressure cook
it for 2 – 3 whistles. Once the pressure is released, open the lid, add turmeric powder, salt and mash the dal finely. Extract tamarind juice from the paste and add the juice to the mashed dal.
Ø Heat
oil in a tawa, temper mustard seeds and cumin seeds and add sliced onions,
curry leaves and fry for 2 – 3 mins. Now add the mashed dal to it and cook till
boils. (you can add red chili powder at this stage if you want it to be more
spicy).
Serve it hot with rice, ghee,
vadiyalu and avakai (mango pickle)…
